The Council of Architecture (CoA) is an autonomous statutory body of the Ministry of Education, Government of India constituted under the provisions of the Architects Act, 1972, and came into force with effect from 1st September, 1972. The Act provides for registration of Architects, standards of education, recognized qualifications, and standards of practice to be complied with by the practicing architects. The Council is vested with the responsibility of maintaining the register of architects as well as regulating the Architecture education and practice of the Architecture profession throughout India. For this purpose, the Government of India has framed Rules and the Council has framed Regulations as provided for in the Architects Act, with the approval of the Government of India.

POST GRADUATE ENTRANCE TEST IN ARCHITECTURE (PGETA) is being conducted by CoA since 2006, to qualify for admission to Post Graduate Programmes. The Council has prescribed CoA (Minimum Standards of Architectural Education for Post Graduate Programmes) Regulations, 1983, and the CoA (Minimum Standards of Post Graduate Programmes) Regulations, 2022, with the approval of the Central Government in terms of Sections 21 & 45 of the Architects Act, 1972. These Regulations prescribe that the candidate needs to qualify an entrance test for admission to Post-Graduation Programme in Architecture.

Complying with the Admission Minimum Standards of Architectural Education for Post-Graduate Degree Programme Guidelines. The actual admissions shall be carried out only by the concerned competent authorities of the respective States / UT’s, Institutions based on valid PGETA scores and eligibility criteria prescribed by CoA and concerned authorities from time to time.

The website PGETA.IN has been developed to provide the registration of candidates for appearance in the PGETA Examination by the Council of Architecture, Government of India.
